NASA Space Shuttle Landing Sites must have a runway that is at least 3,050 metres long and access to personnel and equipment capable of responding to the landing
MAIN
– Kennedy Space Center, FL (preferred location)
– Edwards AFB, CA
– White Sands Space Harbor, NM
ALTERNATE: Transoceanic
Abort Landing (TAL) Sites – in case of an emergency after liftoff
– Istres Air Base, France
– Morón Air Base, Spain
– Zaragoza Air Base, Spain
Space shuttles are launched eastward over the Atlantic Ocean from Kennedy Space Center in Florida for insertion into equatorial orbits.
