Where lies Mayotte?

Mayotte (official “Collectivité départementale de Mayotte”) is located in the Indian Ocean. On March 29 2009 a referendum on becoming the 101st overseas department of France was held. 95% of the voters approved the change – so in 2011 the island will join France as a full part of the French republic – and therefore also be member of the European Union.
