San Fermín in Pamplona

The San Fermín (the most famous event is The Encierro “The Running of the bulls”) in Pamplona, Spain is celebrated annually from July 6 (noon) – July 14 (midnight). It is a traditional festival which originated in the medieval period. The novel “The Sun Also Rises/Fiesta” (1924) by Ernest Hemingway made the festival internationally known. Nowadays the Encierro is critisised by animal-rights activists because the bulls get slaughtered in the arena after the run.
