The brandnew GeoEye-1 Earth-imaging satellite (...the highest resolution of any commercial imaging system...) launches on September 6, 2008 from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California. Google is a partner of Geoeye - so hopefully this satellite will bring new updated imagery for Google Maps soon.

The Burj Al Arab in Dubai is one of the most exclusive and expensive hotels in the world. It has 60 floors and 202 rooms and is 321 m (1,053 ft) high. The construction took 5 years from 1994 - 1999.

The Jefferson National Expansion Memorial (aka "St. Louis Gateway Arch" or "Gateway to the West") is the landmark of St. Louis in Missouri. The arch is 630 feet (192 m) tall and was completed in 1935. In 1968 a tram system and to the observation area (inside the top of the arch) was installed.

The Pyramid of Cheops is one of the seven wonders of the ancient world and an UNESCO world heritage site. It was constructed about 2570 BC and has a height of 138.8 m, (455.2 ft). The Great Sphinx of Giza is a half-human, half-lion Sphinx statue "guarding" the Giza plateau.

The Independence Hall in Philadelphia was built from 1732 to 1753. It is an important location in American history. On July 4, 1776 the Declaration of Independence was signed in this building. The Bell Tower was the first home of the Liberty Bell which is a symbol of independence. In front of the entrance a statue of George Washington can be found. The hall is part of the UNESCO world heritage.

The Great Barrier Reef is the world's largest coral reef system. It has a lenghth of 2,600 kilometres (1,616 mi) and is home to more than 1,500 different species of fish and 400 different species of corals. Since 1981 it is a UNESCO world heritage site. The reef is also "filming location" of Pixar's animation film "Finding Nemo".
